CPI(M) workers burn govt's effigy on power tarrif hike

CPI (M) workers today staged dharna in front of the Collectorate here protesting the proposed power charges hike and they burnt an effigy of the state government.

They denounced the government for its 'failure' in controlling the prices of essential commodities and subjecting the people to untold hardships by frequent hiking of power charges and collecting surcharge without any rationale.

CPI (M) District Council Member T S Prakash, City Unit Secretary Palivela Veerababu, CITU Rural Unit Secretary M V Ramana and AIDWA District Unit Vice President T Savithri led the stir.

Later, the demonstrators called on East Godavari District Collector Neethu Kumary in a delegation and gave a representation expressing their resentment over power charges hike.
