Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy along with Union Minister for Rural Development Jairam Ramesh inaugurated the 'Jalaprabha' programme by commissioning a bore well at Vajrakutam hamlet of Chendurty KH Pet village in Gollaprolu mandal today and interacted with the beneficiaries on their experiences and benefits accrued to them.
Addressing a public meeting here, the Chief Minister said though the government had assigned ten lakh acres to the SC ST beneficiaries in the state forty years ago, they were not able to cultivate them due to lack of irrigation facilities.
The Indira Jalaprabha scheme was launched to provide irrigation facilities to these lands extending Rs 1.80 lakh to each acre of land, he said, adding under the scheme within three years water would be supplied to ten lakh acres by sinking series of bore wells.
He said in East Godavari district 25,000 acres were identified for development under Indira Jalaprabha scheme of which 9,333 acres would be developed during current year benefiting 5,324 people.
