Taking a tough stand, Madurai district administration has prohibited Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) Founder-President Dr S Ramadoss from entering Madurai district, till February 21 for his alleged inflammatory remarks against inter-caste marriages.
In a press release here today, District Collector Anshul Mishra said the district administration has issued an order barring him from entering Madurai district till February in a bid to prevent caste clashes or violence. Since he (Mr Ramadoss) was not available in his house at Thailapuram, when the order was taken there yesterday, it would be served to him today, he said.
With this, Madurai is the second southern district in Tamil Nadu to bar Ramadoss from entering over his inflammatory remarks against Dalits. Already, Ramanathapuram district administration has barred him over the issue.
Ramadoss had floated an umbrella organisation of various intermediate caste groups in Madurai on December 20, last under the banner 'All Community Forum to Fight for Amendments in Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities Act) and Prevent Inter-caste Fake Love Marriages, aftermath the violent incidents in Dharmapuri district. The forum vowed to fight inter-caste marriages involving Dalits and amendments in SC/ST act.
Anshul Mishra issued a show cause notice to Ramadoss on December 22 following strong protests from various outfits, asking him why he should not be prohibited from entering the district for two months under Section 144 of CrPC for his remarks. Mishra asked Ramadoss to appear before him and give an explanation to the notice on December 26. However, Ramadoss did not turn up before the collector, instead submitted his explanation through his counsel and defended his remarks.
