Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today announced creation of a Wakf Board Development Fund and sanctioned a sum of Rs three crore for it.
An official statement here said, the government headed by Ms Jayalalithaa had been implementing various welfare measures for the welfare of the minorities.
It said the Chief Minister had hiked the pension for Ulemas and also increased the number of beneficiaries to 2600, besides hiking the subsidy for Haj pilgrims.
In yet another initiative, the Chief Minister today announced creation of Wakf Board Development fund and sanctioned Rs three crore for it.
The funds would be utilised to repair and renovate mosques and darghas, the release added.
It said the Chief Minister also announced setting up of a Government Kallar Girls Higher Secondary School at Sokkanoorani in Madurai district for girls studying from standard sixth to 12th and allotted a sum of Rs 2.02 crore for constructing buildings and another Rs 22 lakh for purchase of furnitures and other articles.
It said 24 higher secondary schools, 25 high schools, 211 primary schools were being run for educating boys and girls belonging to Piramalai Kallar in Madurai, Theni and Dindigul districts.
A total number of 37,556 students have enrolled in these schools.
Recently, the Chief Minister, in a bid to encourage boys and girls belonging to Piramalai Kallar to pursue their education, announced upgradation of three Kallar primary schools as secondary schools and three secondary schools as higher secondary schools.
Now, for the benefit of girl students studying from standard sixth to 12th at the Goverrnment Kallar Higher Secondary school in Sokkanoorani in Madurai district, she announced creation of Sokkanoorani Kallar Girls Higher Secondary School and allotted funds for it", the release said.
