Two head constables of the Puducherry police were transferred in connection with the rape of a plus two student case here recently.
According to police, Thrubhuvanai HC Deivanayagam and Villianur H C Iyyanaar were transferred to the Puducherry Armed Police.
Widespread allegation of lethargic attitude of the police in the case was there following which DIG Shukhla had already ordered for a departmental enquiry. The transfer was on the basis of the report of the departmental enquiry.
Volunteers of the SFI today held a demonstration in front of the education department to protest the reforms proposed to be imposed on the dress code of girl students here. Education Minister Thyagarajan had announced that the girls will have to wear overcoats. The agitators maintained that the girls should not be made responsible for the rape or any other crimes against them.
At one time, they barged into the department and entered into an argument with Director, School Education, Mr Vallabhan who informed them that the decision was not final and another round of talks would be there with the minister before taking a final decision.
On assurance of this, the volunteers called off their agitation.
