Three people were killed in the massive fire that swept the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) terminal at Hazira in Surat since Saturday.

The body of a third person was recovered on Sunday afternoon after two bodies were recovered earlier.

The government has announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakhs to the families of the victims.

It took nearly 21 hours to control the flames, officials said on Sunday.

Of the nine tanks at IOC facility, the tank number four had caught fire.

The tank contained 5,000 kilolitres of petrol when it caught fire, reports said.

Union Oil Minister Veerappa Moily surveyed the site on Sunday and said the state-run had incurred a loss of around Rs 45 crore due to the fire.
