Over 500 athletes from across the country, representing 51 teams, will vie for honours in the 42nd All India Ordnance Factories athletic meet being organised by the Ordnance Factory in the city outskirts at Yeddumailaram from January 4 to 6.
To be declared open by Sudhir Kumar Beri, Chairman and Director-General, Ordnance Factories, Ordnance Factory Board (OFB), Kolkata, the three-day meet will have competitive events in 33 track and field disciplines for men and women.
The event is being organised under the auspices of Ordnance Factories Sports Promotion Board, which is affiliated to Athletic Federation of India.
According to V K Panda, General Manager of the Medak factory, which is hosting the extravaganza after a gap of 21 years, the multipurpose venue Sarath Stadium has been spruce dup for the purpose.
Defending champion Rifle Factory Ishapore, Kolkata will be looking for an encore. Challengers to their supremacy will be formidable outfits like the ordnance factories that are based at Itarsi, Bolangir and the host, which is keen to regain former glory having won the overall champion on eight earlier occasions.
The cynosure of all eyes will be the best athlete from the previous edition, Tarit Singh Roy of Ordnance Factory Board.
