The Gujarat government today said the Supreme Court verdict on the appointment of Lokayukta in the state will be implemented with immediate effect.
Talking to mediapersons soon after the apex court verdict on the controversial appointment, state Law Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama said, "The state government will come out with a detailed response to the verdict only after studying it." "But the apex court has taken into account the state government view that the appointment of the Lokayukta can only be made in consultation with the state cabinet," he said.
Mr Chudasama said the Supreme Court verdict will be implemented with immediate effect in the state.
Governor Kamla Beniwal had notified the appointment of Lokayukta on August 25, 2011, and the state government challenged it in the High Court next day.
