Retired Justice R A Mehta, whose appointment as Gujarat Lokayukta was upheld by the Supreme Court today, had no comments to offer on the verdict.
Talking to mediapersons soon after the apex court verdict, Justice Mehta declined comment saying, 'May be government will notify in Gazette, I have no idea.' Terming the verdict as the victory of the Apex Court, Justice Mehta said, 'I don't think Modi goverment's attitude will be a challange for Lokayukta.' He said, 'we need a Lokayukta in Gujarat and even the government has accepted it.' On Gujarat High Court Chief Jusitce's recommendation on the appointment of the Lokayukta, he said that 'the CJ's recommendations are always non-political.'
Referring to the fact that he never filed his reply either in the high court or in Supreme Court, he said, 'I am indifferent, I am not supporting, nor contesting. Matter is sub-judice, hence, I never spoke to media on this issue and I don't have any comments now too.'
