A court here awarded life sentence to an accused in connection with the murder of a youth in 2007.
The court also slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 yesterday on the accused.
According to the prosecutor, the body of Raju Shelke (32), was found near Mehum village near Pishor in Kannad tehsil on June 11, 2007.
Upon finding his body, his sister Kalpana suspected that he was murdered by one Ramesh Shelke. Following which, Pishor police upgraded the missing person complaint to that of murder.
Acting on the basis of her complaint, police arrested Ramesh who later confessed to the crime.
Pishor police filed a charge sheet against the accused in the Sessions court here.
Ten witnesses examined during the trial.
Delivering the verdict, the court observed that the crime was of a very serious nature and there was sufficient evidence against the accused and awarded life imprisonment under section 302 of Indian Penal Code (IPC), the prosecutor added.
