Janatha Dal(S) president H D Deve Gowda today urged Karnataka Governor H R Bhardwaj to appoint a new lokayukta in the state as the BJP government was intentionally delaying the appointment on the post, which was vacant for more than one year.
Speaking to reporters here, he said the Governor should take the lead from the Supreme Court judgement dismissing an appeal by the Gujarat government over the Governor appointing the head of anti-corruption institution.
'The BJP government is not interested in filling the post as it has to safeguard a number of its leaders who are already facing criminal charges from the Lokayukta institution. Mr Bhardwaj is a legal luminary and will know whom to appoint. Hope the appointment will happen soon,' he said.
Mr Gowda said JD(S) will return with the best results by bagging the highest number of seats it ever bagged in the Karnataka Assembly during the 2013 polls.
He said he had been touring northern parts of the state to galvanise support for his party and encourage the party cadre to brace up for bigger challenges.
The JD(S), which has support in pockets dominated by Vokkaliga community has been a king maker in Karnataka politics in the recent era of coalition governments.
