City Commissioner of Police of Hubli-Dharwad B A Padmanayana today said it has been decided to re-launch e-beat system for day and night patrolling in the twin city of Hubli-Dharwad.
Talking to newspersons here, he said that the system was halted for quite some time due to technical snag and everything has been rectified.
He said it has been decided to take full use of modern technology to prevent crimes in bigger cities. Already many measures have been taken to contain crime rates in the twin city and they have become quite effective.
He said instead of keeping point book e-tag will be introduced so that the beat system record has been kept up to date and the police staff on duty will be provided e-beat reader. Once the beat police visits the house where e-tag is provided he will contact the tag and as such the time, day of visit is recorded automatically. This system also speaks on the duty record of the beat police on duty also, he explained.
CCTV system has already been introduced and everything can be observed including traffic violation by sitting at the police station. eleven CC cameras are in Hubli city. Ten cameras in Vidyanagar Hubli and two in Ghantikeri police station limits have been installed. In Dharwad city 15 CC cameras are installed.
The use of modern technology has given its effect and during 2012 crime rate has fallen considerably. Except the chain snatching all other crimes has diminished drastically.
There appears to have been increase in sexual atrocity cases as the department has been registering the complaints filed even after mutual sexual act as sexual assault, he said.
