District Collector Neethu Kumary said that fertiliser subsidy to farmers also would be paid to the 'Aadhaar' linked bank accounts in East Godavari as a pilot project under the direct cash transfer scheme being implemented by the Central Government from 2013 January.
She told presspersons here today the Principal Secretary, Agriculture Department, had sent a communication to this effect to all the collectors advising them to take steps for enrolling the farmers under Aadhaar and also open the Aadhaar-seeded bank accounts.
'If the farmers purchase the fertilisers, the subsidy due to them would be credited to their Aadhaar-seeded bank accounts under the direct benefit transfer scheme, she said', she said.
'Since benefit would be allowed to those having Aadhaar seeded bank accounts only', she said asking the farmers to avail the facility by opening the bank accounts as stipulated.
The Collector also instructed the officials of the Agricultural Department to ensure that all the farmers open the bank accounts according top priority.
