East Godavari Collector Neethu Kumary today said that an awareness programme 'Marpu' highlighting the importance of hospital deliveries and nutritious diet and on reducing mother and child mortality rate would be implemented in all the villages and towns all over the district from December 27.
She told press persons here that officials and staff of the medical and health, women and child welfare, DRDA would work in coordination for implementation of' Marpu' programme.
"The aim of the programme is to strengthen the medical and health services from village level with the participation of community. For this purpose village, mandal and district level committees have been constituted with officials and various sections of the society," she added.
The committees will ensure that all pregnant women will have deliveries only at the hospitals, keeping them under doctors care there for two days and encouraging mother's milk feeding to the infants, she added.
