Olympian archers will be hogging the limelight at the 36th edition of senior national archery championships, which Chennai will be hosting for the first time, from December 27 to December 29.
The event is being hosted by The Archery Association of Tamil Nadu(TAAT).
TAAT Secretary Shihan Hussaini said as many as 720 archers have confirmed participation in the event which the state assocition is conducting with the objective of giving a fillip to the sport here which is dormant in spite of having a tradition.
Upcoming archers will be vying for honours with Olympins like Rahul banerjee, Satyadev Prasad, Dola Banerjee, Tarundeep Rai, Jayanta Talukdar, Deepika Kumari, Bombaila Devi, Anga Chekrovolu, Pranitha, Magan Singh Champia, Sumangala Sharma, Reena Kumari.
Commonwealth Games Bronze Medalist Sreedhr, Jignas, Ritul Chaterjee, Gagandeep Kaur, Manjutha Soy and Namita Yadav are also in fray, Mr Husseini said.
Competitions will be held in Recurve and Compound events.
Another feture of this nationals will be the fact that six para archers will also be competing for medals, Mr Husseini added.
