Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today announced modernisation of the State-owned Transport Corporations by providing GPS-equipped gadgets to print tickets in the bus and transmit other details of the vehicle to a control room on real time basis.
She also sanctioned a sum of Rs 300 crore for purchase of new buses, an official release here said.
Stating Ms Jayalalithaa has ordered introduction of GPS-equipped ticketing system in government buses, it said the GPS facility would reduce the burden of the conductor, besides instantly giving ticket data and other details to the headquarters of the Transport Corporations.
In all 43,987 GPS equipped ticketing machines would be acquired for eight transport corporations.
Ms Jayalalithaa also ordered setting up of necessary infrastructure facilities in 285 depots, 20 divisions and eight headquarters.
