Big B donates Rs 2.5 lakh to family of Delhi police constable
Moved by the plight of Delhi Police constable who died after being injured in clashes during the protests against gangrape of a 23-year-old physiotherapy student on December 23, Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan has donated Rs 2.5 lakh to his family.
The South Indian Educational Society had conferred the Award for Eminence on Bachchan, and the accolade included a cheque of Rs 2.5 lakh.
In a post on social networking site Twitter, he said, "Many do not know that a police constable was critically injured in the protests that turned violent day before .. he succumbed! "Constable carrying out orders in the line of duty was the only earning member of his large family ..! I have donated my Award money to his family!! They are distraught and of lesser means.. prayers!" Responding to tweets that criticised him for publicising his act of charity, the legendary star said, "Donate and do not talk about it, they say you do nothing for society...do and talk about it, they say you seek publicity!," he added.
