BSE Sensex climbs led by banks
The BSE Sensex rose 0.84 percent on Wednesday, as banks sailed on hopes of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) action and blue chips advanced on government moves.
The 30-share benchmark index ended 162.37 points higher at 19,255.09 with 22 of its components closing in the green.
The broader 50-share National Stock Exchange (NSE) Nifty index ended 0.85 percent or 49.85 points higher at 5905.60 on Wednesday.
Investors hoped that the central bank would continue to inject liquidity aiding lenders while positive government action lifted some prominent stocks.
Meanwhile in the bullion market, gold fell by Rs 195 to Rs 30,430 per 10 grams while silver tumbled by Rs 480 to Rs 57,670 per kg.
