1950s men voted most desirable by modern women
Modern women regard the men of the 1950s as the most desirable of all time, and would love their 21st century counterparts to make more of an effort with their manners and appearance, a new survey has revealed.
Unlike modern males, men in the 1950's regularly held doors open for women, and had a wardrobe full of well-pressed two piece suits.
None, needless to say, wore fake tan or tried a 'pejazzle' - the male equivalent of the TOWIE-inspired vajazzle.
The survey, undertaken by men's grooming brand, Scaramouche and Fandango, revealed that 61 percent of women think that the coiffed but manly men of the 50's are a vast improvement on today's incarnation, the Daily Mail reported.
What's more, although 79 percent of men surveyed felt that they behaved in a gentlemanly way towards their partners, only 52 percent of women agreed.
Old-fashioned manners proved overwhelmingly popular among women, with 82 percent saying that they preferred old style chivalry such as holding doors or buying flowers to their modern equivalent - buying a drink.
Along with the perfect manners of Mr 1950, modern women also revealed that they rated the sartorial skills of 50's man well above that of contemporary men.
Eight out of ten women revealed they wished their partner would make more effort with his appearance - with one in five hoping their other half merely steps up his hygiene regime.
