Strike hits banking operations
Kozhikode, Dec 20 (UNI)
Banking operations, including clearance, in the region came to a standstill as the officers and workmen joined the nationwide bank stir today in protest enactment of Banking Regulation Act by the Centre.
Claiming the strike in the region was total, Aikyavedi Convenor P K Lakshmidas said majority of the officers and workers struck work hitting the operations in public, private and associated banks.
Later the strikers held a demonstration before the Indian Bank at SM Street in the city, he said adding were addressed byP Pradeep Kumar (AIBEA), K Chadrahasa Shetty (AITUC), P Ajay Kumar (NGO Union), C P Sulaiman (CITU), M Kunhikrishan (LIC Emp Union) and M D Gopinath (AIBOA), among others.
Similar demonstrations were held at Vatakara, Koilandi, Perambra, Feroke and Thamarassery in the district, he added.
