"Congress won where Rahul campaigned "
Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari on Thursday praised Rahul Gandhi and said the Congress won all the constituencies in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh where the party general secretary had campaigned before the assembly polls.
"One interesting thing is that in all the constituencies where Rahul Gandhi campaigned, in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh, Congress has won," Tewari told media.
Pertinently, both Rahul and Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi had campaigned in the states before the elections.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) under the leadership of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi is all set to win the assembly polls in the state.
Modi, who himself won from the Maninagar seat beating his Congress challenger Shwetha Bhatt, wife of the anti-Modi IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt, is all set to rule the western state for the third consecutive term.
However, the Congress received some good news in Himachal Pradesh where the party is all set to rule for the next five years wresting the state from the BJP after it almost swept the assembly polls under the leadership of leader Virbhadra Singh as counting was nearing completion for the Himalyan province on Thursday.
Of the 177 declared seats among the total 182 seats in Gujarat, the BJP has won 118 seats and leading in 4 seats till results were showing at around 3:30 pm.
The Congress has won 55 seats and leading in 1 seat in the state. Other parties got 4 seats.
Gujarat witnessed two phased polls on Dec 13 and 17.
In the 68-seat Himachal Pradesh, the Congress has won 36 seats.
The BJP has won 25 seats and leading in 1 seat. Other parties got 6 seats.
Polling was held on Nov 4 in Himachal Pradesh.
