Lanning achieves career-best placing

Posted on Dec 20, 01:47PM | IBNS

Australia's Meg Lanning has been rewarded for her record-breaking efforts with the bat in the Rose Bowl series against New Zealand with a jump of four places to sixth position in the latest Reliance ICC Women's ODI Player Rankings for batters, which were released on Thursday.

The 20-year-old Lanning also achieved a career-best rating of 635 points.

Lanning was the top run-getter on either side with 300 runs at an average of 75 with a strike-rate of 143.54. In the third ODI of the series, Lanning broke two Australia records.

She hit the fastest half-century off 23 balls and the fastest hundred, breaking Karen Rolton's Australia record of scoring an ODI century off 57 balls in 2000.

Australia won the four-match series by a margin of 3-1.

The Rose Bowl series was the last international engagement for both Australia and New Zealand before the ICC Women's World Cup 2013 gets underway in Mumbai.

Both Australia and New Zealand are placed in Group B in the showpiece event scheduled to be held from 31 January to 17 February 2013.

The series also saw the highest match aggregate score in women's ODI cricket of 577 runs being achieved in the second match.

In the same match, Australia's total of 289 for six became the highest total by a team batting second in women's ODIs. This performance helped Australia win the match by four wickets to level the series at one-all.

New Zealand's top-scorers in the series, including captain Suzie Bates and Amy Satterthwaite have also made gains in the latest table.

Bates, 25, has moved up 11 places to achieve her career-best ranking of seventh after scoring 274 runs at an average of 91.33 in the series while her team-mate Satterthwaite has re-entered the top 10 after moving up six places to fifth.

Satterthwaite, who scored 254 runs including a century and a half-century, also achieved her career-best ratings of 653 during the series.

Others to make upward movements in the batting table are Nicola Browne in 15th (up by five), Rachael Haynes in 31st (up by six), Ellyse Perry in 39th (up by two), Erin Osborne in 45th (up by four), Katie Perkins in 47th (up by 30), Sarah Coyte in 61st (up by 28), Alyssa Healy in 99th (up by 52) and Rachel Candy in 102nd (up by 33).

Meanwhile, Australia's Lisa Sthalekar has slipped to second position in the latest bowlers' table, ceding the top spot to England's Katherine Brunt.

Australia's Erin Osborne's five wickets in the series has helped her achieve her career-best ranking of 13th with a best-ever 511 ratings points.

Others to head in the right direction are Sarah Coyte in 24th (up by two), Sian Ruck in 27th (up by 10), Rachel Candy in 43rd (up by 18), Jess Jonassen in 58th (up by nine), Lea Tahuhu in 65th (up by 20) while Erin Bermingham has re-entered the rankings at 67th.

There has been no change in the top 10 of the all-rounders' table. West Indies' Stafanie Taylor still heads the table, followed by Australia's Sthalekar in second and New Zealand's Browne in third spot.
