The Drugs Control Department in Kerala will open more drug testing labs to tackle the menace of spurious drugs.
State Health Minsiter V S Shivkumar told the State Assembly it is the responsibility of the Department to ensure the availability of quality drugs to the public and the market is free from counterfeit, spurious and substandard drugs.
Replying to a question in this regard, the Minister said the State informed its displeasure to the Centre over certain clauses included in the new national drug policy.
Aiming to reduce the prices of medicines in the State, the Health Department began the supply of generic medicines, he said. The Government was also preparing a list of costly life saving medicines to manufacture with the help of state-owned Drugs and Pharmaceuticals Limited, he added.
