A group of settlers farmers in Kozhikode district of Kerala will stage an indefinite fast before the Collectorate in protest against, what they said 'forcible eviction' from their land by the Forest Department.
Karshaka Action Committee Chairman and senior Congress leader O D Thomas, in a release today, said they were forced to stage the fast in protest against attempted move to evict about 200 farmers from Koorachund, Chakkittapara and Kandhalad in the district by refusing to accept their land tax.
Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee General Secretary and former Minister P Sankaran would inaugurate the stir, he said.
Leaders representing various political parties, including DCC President K C Abu, Kerala Congress (M) district President John Poothakkuzhi, Indian Union Muslim League district Vice President O D Mohammed Koya Haji, KPCC Working Committee memebr K Ramachandran, Infam leader Baby Perumalil and INTUC State General Secretary K C Ramachandran would speak.
