Iraqi president suffers brain stroke
Iraqi President Jalal Talabani has been hospitalised in critical condition following brain stroke, Xinhua reported Tuesday.
The 79-year-old president has been confronting various health problems in recent years.
"The president was admitted to Baghdad hospital of Madinat al-Tib late last night and was unconscious due to stroke," said a medical source requesting anonymity, adding: "He is in critical condition."
Earlier in the day, Talabani's office said the Iraqi president was admitted to a Baghdad hospital "because of fatigue and tiredness".
On Monday, Talabani had held a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri Al-Maliki to discuss means to ease the latest tension between Baghdad and the autonomous region of Kurdistan.
