Modi international grand prix badminton inaugurated in Lucknow

Shaheed Dr K L Garg-Syed Modi International Grand Prix Gold Badminton Championship 2012 was inaugurated here today by Dr Akhilesh Das Gupta, MP and President of Badminton Association of India(BAI).

Uttar Pradesh Food and Civil Supplies Minister Raghuraj Pratap Singh was the chief guest on the occassion.

The Chief guests addressed the gathering and motivated the players through their rhetoric, also they recapitulated India's ace Badminton star Syed Modi's aura in the International Badminton World. Star attraction and inspiration of aspiring shuttlers Saina Nehwal commended the organizing committee and thanked the Indians for their cheering and support, she made her presence at the inaugural function. Then after the speech there was a tantalizing performance by 'Heavens on the Earth' which dazzled the hearts of the players and personalities.

Over 150 players from 12 countries are going to compete in this tourney which will end on December 23. The prize money of the tournament is estimated to be approximately 1,20,000 dollar. The competition will be carried out in five events -- Men's Singles, Women's Singles, Men's Doubles, Women's Doubles and Mixed Doubles.

On the first day (Round 1) witnessed a minor upset with Manish Gupta of India was defeated by his country mate Prakash Jolly in the Men's Singles qualifying round one.

While in Women's Singles Salli Rane lost to Ruthvika Shivani G.
