Rupee ends steady at 54.86 against dollar

The rupee ended flat today at 54.86 against the US Dollar on sell-off of the greenback by banks and exporters, dealers at the inter-bank foreign exchange said.
Having tumbled by 54 paise in last three sessions, the local unit increaed by 14 paise to 54.72 in the opening trade. Finally, it ended steady at 54.86 per USD.
The rupee registered the day's high and low at 55.05 and 54.70 per USD, respectively, with a major fluctuation.
The rupee remained volatile as the Reserve Bank of India kept its key rates unchanged. A positive equity market also boosted the sentiment, dealrs added.
