The Department of Food Science and Technology of the Pondicherry University has acquired state-of-the-art Food Processing Pilot Plant with financial assistance from the Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Government of India.
According to a University release here today, Prof J A K Tareen, Vice-Chancellor, Pondicherry University will inaugurate the facility tomorrow.
The facility houses various Food Processing equipment of Semi Industrial Scale such as Canning and Retort Unit, Spray Drying Unit, Modified Atmosphere Packing Unit, Industrial Baking Unit, Freeze Drying, Tray Dryer and Fluidised bed dryer in addition to other smaller equipment.
Pilot Plant has the back up of strong analytical laboratory for food analysis purpose.
This is the only such faculty available in this region, the release claimed.
