India needs honest, non-corrupt politicians-Maharashtra Guv

Maharashtra Governor K Sankaranarayanan today called upon the youths and children to think of entering public life and serving the country.

Speaking to a group of students from NEERI Modern School, Nagpur at Raj Bhavan here, he said India needs good, honest and non- corrupt politicians to lead the country on the path of progress, prosperity and bright future.

Replying to a query by a student who wanted to know how to become a politician, Mr Sankaranarayanan said "In order to join politics, a person should have commitment to serve society." He advised students to develop the habit of reading newspapers and following news relating to the affairs of society and the nation to join politics.

The Governor asked parents and teachers to mould the character of the children carefully. He asked them to develop in children respect for India's religious, ethnic and linguistic diversity.

He reiterated his advice to parents to not to give too much pocket money to children. He said he personally feels that school children should not be given mobile phones unless it was necessary.

School children asked the Governor various interesting questions relating to Lokpal Bill, education system and problems of Vidarbha, among others.

Earlier, the students accompanied by their teachers were given a guided tour of the Biodiversity Park that included a visit to the Cactus Garden, the Butterfly garden and the Nakshatra van and the Nature's trail.
