President of the International Association of Hydrogeologists (IAH), Prof Cain Howard, today inaugurated the four-day-long fifth International Ground Water Conference (IGWC-2012) at Jagatguru Sant Tukaram Maharaj Natyamandir here.
Padmashree Fatema Zakaria, chairman of Maulana Azad College of Arts, Science and Commerce, presided over the function. While, organizing committee president Dr Maqdum Faruki, Prof Dr P S Kulkarni, organising secretary and president of GEOFOURM, S B Varade among others were present on the occasion.
The conference has been jointly organised by the Maulana Azad College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Dr Raafiq Zakaria campus, Association of Geologists and Hydrogeologists (GEOFOURM) and International Groundwater Council (IGC) at Dr Rafiq Zakaria campus.
Thirty-eight representatives and scientists from across the 22 countries including USA, UK, France, Japan, Italy, Australia and 390 from across the country including Central Groundwater Corporation, NGRI-Hyderabad, Indian Association of Hydrologists (IAH), Indian School of Mines, Groundwater Surveys and Development Agency (GSDA) and NEERI scientists are participating in the conference.
The main theme of IGWC is "The Assessment and Management of Groundwater Resources in Hard Rock Systems with Special Reference to Basaltic Terrain".
In the four-day-long conference, experts will present their research papers on different subjects and make suggestions to the problems.
