Byelection to fill the Rajya Sabha vacancy from Maharashtra caused by the death of the former Union Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh will be held on January 12, Election Commission announced today.
The term of the vacated seat will come to an end on April 2, 2018, it added.
The EC said notification for the byelection will be issued on December 26, and the last date for filing nominations is on January 2. Scrutiny of nomination papers will be on the next day and the last day for withdrawal of candidatures is January 5.
Polling will be held on January 12 between 0900 hrs to 1600 hrs and the counting at 1700 hrs on the same day.
