Agasta Aircraft purchased from Italy gutted in fire
Agasta Aircraft that was called by the state government officials as a white elephant was completely gutted in a major fire accident at Begumpet Airport late last night.
The aircraft, which was procured from Italy in 2008 at a whopping price of Rs 63 crore, would ferry Chief Ministers and other VIPs to various places. It had also played a major role in the rescue operations during the floods in Kurnool and spotting the maoist movements in the Andhra-Orissa border.
In the AW-139 Model Agasta west land aircraft, the provision given for seating was for a pilot, co-pilot and 13 others. It would travel 505 nautical miles uninterruptedly at a speed of 257 km per hour.
The aircraft had facilities for giving power point presentation to the Chief Minister by the officials on any issue like they do in the mini office of the Chief Minister.
