Teachers take up 36 hrs 'poru deeksha' at collectorate

A large number of language teachers, school assistants and Physical education teachers owing allegience to the State Teachers Union (STU) have commenced 36 hours hunger strike in the name of 'Poru deeksha' in front of the Collectorate here today in support of the demand for upgradation of their posts.

They raised slogans seeking government to issue sanction orders on their demand before commencement of World Telugu conference at Tirupati.

Their other demands included sanctioning of notional increment of Rs 378 to all of them besides pay protection to those who were meted with injustice under acts of 1/2005 and 37/2005.

STU district unit president T V Satyanarayana Raju, secretary K V Sekhar, state unit secretary KKV Naidu were among those participated in the stir.

Former MLA Vanamadi Venkateswerarao inaugurated the 'poru deeksha' camp and expressed his solidarity to them.
