People rejoiced after the Lok Sabha unanimously supported the amendment to Article 371-J of the constitution today, which provides special status to backward North-Karnataka region.
People distributed sweets and burst crackers to celebrate the event.
Former Minister, BJP leader and Hyderabad-Karnataka Horata samithi president Vaijnath Patil welcomed the Article 371 (J) being passed in the Lok Shabha today.
The constitutional amendment to bring about Article 371-J to provide special status to Hyderabad-Karnataka region that include Gulbarga, Bidar, Raichur, Yadgir, Bellary and Koppal.
The people of these district would be benefited by the bill which is expected to provide the backward area schemes in line with Vidharbha and Telangana package that includes special funds, reservation in government jobs and education.
Speaking to UNI Mr Patil said, 'Today is historic and golden day of our lives. Decades long fight for the status by the H-K people was realised at last and we expect our region will definitely develop in future, he said.
