Rs 20 crore funds for development of Telugu and Kannada : Minister

The Centre has allocated Rs 20.04 crore during the 12th Plan period for research in classical and Telugu and Kannada languages, the Lok Sabha was informed today.

In a written reply, Minister for Culture Chandresh Kumari Katoch said the amount provided to these languages during the 11th Plan for research in the two classical languages was Rs 1.12 crore.

He said amount spent was Rs 51.14 lakh during 2011-12 and Rs 27.40 lakh during the fiscal of 2012-13.

Ms Katoch said additionally the University Grants Commission had released Rs 75 lakh each to Central University of Karnataka and University of Hyderabad for development of classical languages during 11th plan.
