The best of India's handloom industry will find place at the Weaves pavilion of the Global Village - a key attraction of the sixth season of South Indian Bank Grand Kerala Shopping Festival (GKSF).
With Dalda and Carnival Group as its title sponsors, the Global Village will open on December 22 and run until January 9. In keeping with GKSF's commitment to promote domestic and traditional industries, the Weaves pavilion at the international trade fair will present an exciting collection of finest hand-woven garments from across the country; from Gadwals of Andhra Pradesh to Duccar work.
This exclusive pavilion is also a tribute to India's handloom industry and is dedicated to the weavers and artisans of India. It is designed as an elite platform where weavers and artisans can display their masterpieces.
"Weaves - the cotton and silk spectrum", initiated by Hyderabad based Revathi Creative Communications, is a major exhibitor at Global Village with over 50 stalls.
Here, weavers and artisans across the length and breadth of India can sell their garments and handicrafts directly to the customers.
Weaves was launched in 2006 with a commitment to uplift the handloom weavers and empower them economically by creating a platform wherein they can sell authentic handloom to the customers at the best possible price.
For customers, it is also an opportunity to keep themselves abreast of the evolving trends in Indian handloom fashion. On display and sale would be Gadwals, Pochampally, Venkatagiri and Mangalagiri from Andhra Pradesh, Kanjeevaram and Chettinad silks from Tamil Nadu, Maheshwari and Chanderi from Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthani Kota, Lucknowi Chicken-kari, Bengali silk and Daccar work, Orissa Sambalpuri, Kutch embroidery from Gujarat and Kashmir.
Coming up at the Lulu Convention Centre premises on Bolgatty Island, Kochi; the Global Village will feature nearly 400 stalls spread over 24 acres of land.
The Global Village will be housed in a massive German-designed structure offering one lakh square feet of fully air-conditioned space.
Besides Weaves, there will be separate International, National, Kerala, Consumer and Brand pavilions.
An extensive Food Court will also come up at the site which will offer a range of authentic dishes of the different parts of the country and the world.
An Amusement Park offering games and fun rides besides water-based activities will make the holiday season all the more fun for children and families.
