Telugu Desam Party, here today, opposed the government's decision of slashing the buying price of damaged paddy by Rs 512 per quintal and alleged that it would benefit the rice millers and mediators only.

Addressing a news conference, Krishna district TDP President and MLA Devineni Umamaheshwara Rao and general secretary Bonda Umamaheshwra Rao said the buying price of damaged paddy was reduced by Rs 512 per quintal, which was unjust as the farmers, whose crop damaged in the Nilam cyclone would incur losses.

TDP MLA said the government promised to by damaged paddy at remunerative price but backtracked. He said that the farmers in the Krishna delta area are at cross roads on whether they should commence the forming of rabi crop, as the release of water from Nagarjuna Sagar to Krishna delta was not assured.

Mr Uma demanded that Minister K Parthasarathi and other Congress MLAs of the district should respond and do justice to the farmers of the district.

TDP General Secretary B Uma alleged that the local Congress MLAs indulging in transfers of officials and getting nominated their following in nominated posts ignoring the problems of people.
