A delegation comprising members of A P Haj committee, Andhra Pradesh Waqf Board and senior Congress leaders met Chief Minister Mr N Kiran Kumar Reddy and thanked him for setting up the Minorities Commissionerate and various other welfare measures initiated by the Government for the Minorities.
The delegation explained to the Chief Minister that Minorities leadership is working towards developing the party under the leadership of Chief Minister with active support of Ulemas and Mashaqeens.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that his government and the Congress are with the Minorities and assured that the government will take concrete steps for the development and welfare of the Minorities.
The Chief Minister said the budget allocation for Minorities in 2003-04 was just Rs 30 Crore while the budget allocation this year was raised to Rs 489 Crore.
He said his aim was that every rupee spent for minorities welfare should reach the real beneficiary. 'I want administration to be clean and transparent'.
Mr Reddy said Rs 12.5 crore has been sanctioned for new Haj house and Rs 3.5 crore had already released.
Earlier, a delegation of Muslim leaders from Nizamabad and Adilabad districts met the Chief Minister and thanked him for sanctioning Rs 15 crore for repair of Mosques, Churches and increasing the Mess charges for Muslim students on par with SC and ST students.
The delegation told the Chief Minister that the Muslims of Nizamabad, Adilabad and Karimnagar are economically backward and they are pleased that the Government is taking steps to improve their socio economic and educational conditions.
They also requested the Chief Minister to bring in a Sub Plan for Minorities on the lines of the Sub Plan for SCs and STs, an official release here said.
