A delegation led by Kannada Development Authority Chairman Mukhya Mantri Chandru and BJP MP Ananth Kumar called on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi today, urging him to evolve a national policy to accord priority to languages of the state and water policy.

The actor-turned-politician later said he had urged the PM to give priority for mother tongues in imparting education, especially at the primary level, so that the children gain good grounding and also follow 'sons of the soil' in providing employment.

He also urged that the water policy should be such that it would obviate inter-state disputes.

The delegation included noted Kannada scholars Hampa Nagarajaiah, M H Krihnaiah, former Kannada Sahitya Parishat President Go Ru Channabasapa, film directors Nagathihalli Chandrashekhar and B Suresh and Labour leaders Siddaiah and R Chandrashekhar.
