Top stars for prize money ladies snooker from Dec 16
Some of the top stars excelling in the cue sports alongside their male counterpart, will be seen in action in the Artisticks-SVS All India Ubvutation Ladies Snooker tournament to be held here from December 16 to 19.
Chairman of the organising committee Sunil Mathews announced at a press conference last night that the reigning world billiards champion Uma Devi of Karnataka,, her statemate Chitra Magimairaj and the current national champion, Vidya Pillai a multiple national champion, Judi Walia-two times national champion, Arantza Sanchez- the current 6 red snooker national champion will be spearheading the line up. A few other ranked players have also given their entries to make it a formidable field, he added. The winner will take home a purse of Rs 25,000 , the runner up 15,000, the semi finalists Rs 10,000, the quiarter finalists Rs 5000. Besides, the player who runs up a break of 70 or above would be rewarded with Rs 2500 for the highest break, he said. The tournament will be conducted on league cum knock out basis with three players each placed in four groups in the lealgue phase. The top two from each group will enter the quarter finals when the knock out stage begis, he added.
Well known international referee R B Ganesh, who will be the chief referee said the event was being conducted in a bid to give a fillip to ladies snooker as well as other cue sports. "The tournament is a first of its kind in the country offering the highest prize money.", he claimed.
The Artisticks Trophy- a rolling trophy for the winners has been made by well known sculptor S K Srinivasan.. The winner of the tournament will interact with eight leading painters on the concluding day. An art exhibition of their works will also be conducted, he said.
Mr Sunil Mathews said the event would be an annual feature.
