The BSE Sensex rose 0.46 percent on Friday, ending a six-day losing streak as lower-than-expected inflation data stoked investor sentiment.
The 30-share benchmark index ended 87.99 points lower at 19,317.25 with 16 of its components closing in the red.
The broader 50-share National Stock Exchange (NSE) Nifty index ended 0.48 percent or 28.10 points lower at 5,879.60 on Friday.
Traders cheered the inflation cooling to its weakest pace in 10 months in November, expecting favourable decisions when the central bank announces a policy review next week.
Meanwhile in the New Delhi bullion market, gold dropped by Rs 10 to Rs 31,400 per 10 grams while silver ended flat at Rs 61,200 per kg.
