Opposition stages walk out over power crisis
CPI (M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) today staged a walk-out from the State Assembly following the Speaker denying permission for an adjournment motion over power crisis in the state.
Seeking to move an adjournment motion over power crisis, CMI (M) member and former power minister A K Balan said the present crisis was due to lack of proper planning by the State Electricity Department.
The Centre also cut its share of 281 MW of power and this was also not disclosed by the State, he added.
In his reply, Power Minister Aryadan Muhammed said there was no power cut in the state but only the load shedding, which was put into effect following a direction from the Power Regulatory Commission. The present crisis began after the commissioning of the Idukki project, he said.
Saying that the state spent Rs 700 crore for purchasing power, he said de-allocation of Baitarani West coal block under Talcher coalfields was due to the failure of the previous LDF Government.
As Speaker G Karthikeyan denied permission for the adjournment motion, the Opposition members staged the walk out in protest against the denial of discussing the issue in the House.
