Parliament okays separate HCs for Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura
The North-Eastern Areas (Reorganisation) Amendment Bill, 2012, which seeks to create separate high courts for Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura, has been approved by Parliament.
The Rajya Sabha today accorded its sanction to the move..
In his reply, Minister of State for Home Affairs Mullappally Ramachandran said the legislation seeks to bifurcate the joint administrative cadre for Manipur and Tripura and create a separate cadre for the states.
Government was dealing with insurgency with all seriousness, he said.
On shortage of personnel in Manipur and Tripura, Mr Ramachandran said efforts were being made to meet the shortfall.
"The Home Ministry will pay attention with all the seriousness to the problems being faced by the North East," he said.
The Bill was passed by a voice vote.
