Modi taunts Rahul Gandhi again
Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday attacked Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi, saying that even though his father was not a Prime Minister, he was still loved by the people.
"Rahul Gandhi, my father was not the PM. He was not even a sarpanch. Still people love me," Mr Modi said at a rally in Siddhpur in Patan district in north Gujarat, making a reference to Rahul's father, former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
Campaigning for the state elections, the first phase of which concluded on Friday, Modi kept to taunting the Congress party poster boy as he said, "Rahul baba, if you come for a rally then do your homework."
Earlier in an election rally over the undermining of the assembly's role in decision making in the western state, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) strongman hit back questioning the track record of Gandhi himself in Parliament.
Gujarat voted peacefully as around 68 percent voters cast their ballots for the first phase of the assembly elections in Gujarat on Thursday, with a second phase scheduled for Monday and results on Dec 20.
