PIL to challenge Guwahati molestation verdict
Assam Right to Information (RTI) activist and leader of Krishok Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) Akhil Gogoi Thursday said said he will file a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) challenging the verdict in the Guwahati molestation case.
Expressing his unhappiness over the verdict of molestation case by Kamrup district Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) on Dec 7 convicting 11 of the 16 accused in the case and acquitting four of them, the RTI activist demanded a CBI inquiry in the case.
AT a press conference held in Guwahati on Thursday, Gogoi said that, he was not happy with the verdict of the molestation case and will file a PIL in the Gawahati High Court challenging the verdict.
‚EuroúWhole investigation of the case was politically influenced to safeguard Gaurav Jyoti Neog, who worked as a journalist of a local news channel News Live,‚EuroĚ he said.
‚EuroúSome vital evidence had been destroyed by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Assam police and forensic laboratory, which was pointed out in the verdict,‚EuroĚ the RTI activist said.
Alleging the investigating officer and SIT, Gogoi said that, the whole team intentionally misguided the court during investigation and trial.
Gogoi had demanded that the case be re-investigated as well as a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry.
