BSE Sensex dips on inflation worries

The BSE Sensex fell 0.65 percent on Thursday, as heavyweight stocks posted declines while caution prevailed ahead of inflation data due Friday.

The 30-share benchmark index ended 126.00 points lower at 19,229.26 with 23 of its components closing in the red.

The broader 50-share National Stock Exchange (NSE) Nifty index ended 0.62 percent or 36.50 points lower at 5,851.50 on Thursday.

Investors booked profits as caution prevailed ahead of inflation data due Friday that would affect the central bank's decisions when it announces a policy review next week.

Meanwhile in the New Delhi bullion market, gold dropped by Rs 270 to Rs 31,410 per 10 grams while silver lost Rs 800 to Rs 61,200 per kg.
