SER's freight loading up 4.5pc
South Eastern Railway (SER) in first eight months of this fiscal -April-November-(2012-13), has loaded 81.76 million tonne of freight as against 78.24 mt loaded during the corresponding period of last fiscal year, registering a growth of 3.52 mt or 4.5 per cent.
The performance was remarkable because it has loaded 5.77 mt tonnes more than the Railway Board's laid down target till November, 2012, which was an increase of 7.59 per cent.
The loading of the main commodity- Iron Ore during the above period has been 44.82 mt tonnes as against 41.67 mt of Iron Ore loaded during the same period of last financial year.
Earnings from freight traffic have recorded a considerable jump of 4.84 per cent during the first eight months of the current financial year in comparison to the corresponding period of last year.
During April-November of the current financial year, SER has earned Rs. 5712.42 crore from freight traffic as against Rs.5448.45 crore earned from freight sector during the same period of last year.
