Suspended police inspector Sunil Guddlar, one of the main accused in the Goa police-politician-drug mafia nexus case was on Thursday granted bail by the NDPS Court after nine months in Sada-Vasco sub jail as CBI failed to file a chargesheet within the time limit. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), investigating the lethal nexus, had moved an application before the NDPS Special Judge P Sawaikar in August seeking an extension of 180 days for filing chargesheet against Guddlar. The Court had granted 90 days which got lapsed on December 1. Their second application seeking further extension of 90 days was rejected by the Court on Wednesday and subsequently Guddlar applied for default bail application represented by his lawyer Galileo Teles. The matter was argued this morning wherein Teles stated that Guddlar was entitled for bail 'on account of lapse of CBI to file a chargesheet against him'. Judge Sawaikar granting him bail on furnishing personal bond in the sum of Rs 1 lakh with a local surety, besides other conditions.
