Interstate robbery gang busted, 4 held

Police has arrested a five-member interstate robbery gang, including four women, who conducted robbery at textile shops and looted fabric worth about Rs 50 lakh from Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

According to Kannur Deputy SP P Sukumaran, accused Rani Rasangam (50), Easwari (45), Jaya (38), Rasathi (60) and Chilambrasan (25), son of Rani, all hailed from Tamil Nadu and belonged to a rich Thevar family.

Police also took in custody an Ikon car used for robbery.

Mr Sukumaran said the Chakkarakkal SI Rajeevan-led police team nabbed the gang yesterday following a tip-off during patrolling at Thazhe Chowa.

The gang had been robbing big textile shops for the last 15 years.

During interrogation, police also get information about another women gang, having similar modus operandi, the Dy SP added.
