India Inc continues to witness bleak hiring sentiment but contrary to overall trend there is a streak of optimism as hiring activity for Kolkata moves up by 16pc in Nov-12 over Oct-12, according to Naukri Job Speak Index.
This is good news for the jobseekers in the city as after the festive season dip in October, hiring levels for the city is back on track.
The month on month growth witnessed in Kolkata is the highest movement recorded across all the top metros of the country.
Most of the other top cities like Mumbai, Pune and Delhi registered negative movements of 9pc , 6pc and 3pc respectively during the same time period.
Commenting on the trend Hitesh Oberoi, CEO and MD, Info Edge, said: "Most sectors are opting for selective hiring and this trend will continue for the next few months. The recovery in the hiring trends of Kolkata may not be sustained because of the uncertain economic conditions."
Looking at hiring levels industry wise, Pharma has registered the highest month on month growth of 7pc in Nov-12 over Oct-12.
BPO and Construction sector registered stable hiring levels in Nov-12 when compared to Oct-12.
On the contrary, IT- Software and Heavy Machinery sector saw 3pc and 2pc dips in hiring levels during the same time period. This marginal dip could be due to the Diwali season in November.
The demand for professionals in HR and BPO sector remained stable in Nov-12 when compared to Oct-12. Professionals in software services saw a marginal 1pc dip in their demand during the same time period.
